Why Tax Reform - Now?

Rapidly increasing school taxes are a growing concern for New York taxpayers.

A major part of the total property tax bill, school taxes rise steadily from year to year, partly because of unfunded state mandates. The rate of increase outstrips the consumer price index and dwarfs any growth in personal income for most taxpayers.

Our school systems must not suffer.

Investing wisely in education is essential. Still, increasing annual school taxes undermine the ability of many citizens to buy and sustain a home in their own community. The problem affects many of us--seniors, the younger generation, and working families, alike.

Change must take place at the state level.

To spur action, New York citizens need to communicate their demands for reform and tax relief to their elected officials. The Property Tax Reform Task Force exists to make sure that this message comes across loud and clear.
